Like my new jewelry, my hollow porcelain ball ornaments have been a journey of determination. They're not as lightweight as a blown glass ornament, but surprisingly lightweight (around 2 ounces) for a ceramic ornament.
This is a finished ball in front of one of the slip casting molds I use, and in my hand is a dried piece of one showing how thin the walls are of the hollow ball. It took while for me to learn how to slip cast and get it just so- meaning I pour wet porcelain slip into the mold, then have to time it just right and pour out the excess of slip, then let the plaster mold dry the thin porcelain, and then pop them out of the molds and trim them up.
